PAD Testing

Northwest WellnessArterial Brachial Index is the test for Peripheral Artery Disease. Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD) is a condition in which the arteries become narrowed due to the formation of plaque inside the artery walls. More than three-fourths of those with PAD do not have classic symptoms. Basically, the arteries in the legs close off, limiting blood flow to the legs.

    PAD symptoms include:
  • Painful cramping in your leg muscles after activity, such as walking or climbing stairs
  • Leg numbness or weakness
  • Coldness in your lower leg or foot, especially when compared with the other leg
  • A change in the color of your legs
  • Hair loss or slower growth of leg hair or toenails
  • Shiny skin on your legs
  • No pulse or a weak pulse in your legs or feet and/or erectile dysfunction in men
◊ People with PAD are six times more likely to die within ten years from cardiovascular disease than those who do not have PAD*
◊ It is believed that PAD affects between 8 & 12 million people in the U.S. and an equal number in Europe*
