The Framingham Heart Study is a long-term, ongoing cardiovascular study on residents of the town of Framingham, in the state of Massachusetts. The study began 60 years ago and is now on its third generation of participants. Every year, they study the medical test results of the population, answers to lifestyle and chronic illness questions, and the incidences of mild to severe heart attacks and stroke. The Framingham risk assessment compares your results to those of this study group and provides a 10 year risk assessment. In other words, if there were 100 of you here today, how many of the 100 would have lived the coming 10 years without a coronary incident.
The Framingham risk assessment makes use of your cholesterol and glucose results as well as answers to questions about diabetes, enlargement of the heart, age and smoking. Results to your cholesterol (TLP) and glucose required.
PLEASE NOTE
: While test results are important indicators, they do not constitute a diagnosis. Discuss your results with your doctor on your next visit.
